Do you feel it? The fire in your bones – the longing in your heart – the call of adventure. You were never meant to live an ordinary life. You’ve never quite fit in, there’s always been something different about you. You’ve always had a hard time sitting still. People think you’re crazy. There’s so much to see, so much to do – you don’t want to waste your life sitting on your hands. You want to see the world, to meet new people, and create awesome memories that you’ll never forget.
You won’t settle for the nine to five. You want to do something more with your life. You have big dreams. And you intend to make them come alive. You’ll stop at nothing. “Give up”, isn’t in your vocabulary. There’s a flame burning inside you, and it’s ready to let loose. It’s time.
Time for you to take that leap. Time for you to start running. Don’t look back. Yes, it’s going to be hard. Yes, people will tell you that you can’t do it. But you can, and you’re stronger than the obstacles you face. You just have to keep going – keep pushing forward. You got this.
We Know How You Feel
We’ve been there too. And we’ve finally decided to take the leap ourselves. And that’s why we started this blog. Because we know what it’s like. We know what it’s like to have an unquenchable thirst to see the world and go on epic adventures. And we know what it’s like to face impossible odds.
Mission: to inspire people who long for adventure to leave the mundane and live the life they dream of.
In 2009, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease. For almost a decade I’ve been fighting a chronic illness that’s been holding me back from my dream.
And 6 months ago Chelsea and I had our first kid. While he’s the best thing that’s ever happened to us – being parents makes it a lot more difficult to travel and go on adventures.
But we’re not letting anything stop us.
Vag·a·bond – a person who wanders from place to place
Star – An object in the sky that sends out its own light
We named this blog “Vagabond Stars” after all the night skies that you see while traveling. There’s something about going out there in the wilderness, where there’s no light pollution or very many people, after a long day of epic adventure, huddled around a campfire, in the elements, away from technology and normal routine, with the soft noise of water trickling nearby, and just looking up at the stars…
It’s like they hold something powerful – like all your stories, the people you’ve met, the different foods you’ve tried, the risks you’ve taken, the fears you’ve overcome, the great adventures you’ve had… they’re all wrapped up in those night skies.
The name also has a 2nd meaning for us, “ a person who wanders from place to place sending out their own light”.
When you’re doing what you love and living the life you dream of – you naturally inspire and encourage the people around you. You’re like a breath of fresh air. The world needs more people who chase after what they love.
What The Name Means To Us
Not all who wander are lost. There is a type of person who feels most at home while on the move – from one adventure to the next. Sometimes this person is considered by others as weird or an outcast – they’re not always understood. But the ones who know know – and they wouldn’t want to live life any other way.
We are vagabonds. We long for the road. We can’t stand routine or the mundane. People and experiences are more important to us than money or things. It’s stories and relationships that make us feel whole.
The night sky is so full of mystery. It’s always changing – it’s different everywhere you go. So many grand adventures and epic tales are hidden in the stars – they tell stories. There’s nothing like sitting around a campfire hanging out with good people after a day’s adventure and watching the night sky – transitioning from one amazing day to the next.
Vagabond Stars are the adventures we have, the people we meet, and the stories we tell.
Create – art is a part of being human, it’s in our nature, we believe that everyone is creative in one way or another and that tapping into your creative side is good for the soul.
Inspire – we don’t believe in the mundane. Life is an incredible and exciting thing. We all have different passions, and following those passions is what makes us feel alive.
Adventure – life is meant to be explored. We believe in taking wild risks, living in the moment, seeing new places, and trying new things.
Community – people matter. Everyone has a story to tell. Everyone has their own struggles to overcome. We’re all in the same boat. We don’t believe in judging others. We see the best in everyone. Our friends are our greatest treasures. People shape people. You are the sum of who you surround yourself with.
For the wanderers, the lost souls, dreamers, kind hearted, risk takers, fighters, creatives, weirdos, the losers, the broken and hopeless, for the ones who won’t settle for ordinary – who don’t know how to quit — impossible is nothing. Risk it all! Take the leap. And if you fall flat on your face, get back up. And then do it again. The road is hard. It’s full of winds and turns, and most of it’s uphill. The path disappears in places. There’s pitfalls and traps. You’re going to get muddy — battered and bruised. But you’ll get used to the blood. You’re a warrior — a machine. This is what you were made for. The journey is the reward. You lust for adventure. It only takes one step at a time. You’ll be there soon. And the destination will blow your mind away.
I want a carefree life – I want to be full of joy, and stress free. I want to let go.
I want to stop comparing myself to everyone. I want to embrace the unique things about me.
I want to slow down. I want to stop trying to be better than everyone at everything. I don’t want to judge. I want to be vulnerable. I want to be honest. I don’t want to be ashamed of my flaws or mistakes.
I want to have fun – to wander around the world – to meet new people and see new places. I want to try new things and start new hobbies.
I want to surf and explore jungles. To dive deep underwater. And climb tall snowy mountains. I want to learn new languages.
I want to immerse myself in new cultures.
I want to be free. I want to be master of my own time. I want less things.
I want to love.
I want to support and spend quality time with my family.
I want to do more of the things I enjoy. Like hiking, climbing, rafting, yoga, martial arts, and snowboarding. I want to go on great adventures.
I want to take risks.
I want to jump from high places – off of rocks, into water, from bridges, out of planes, down waterfalls, off of cliffs and tall buildings.
I want to fly.
I want my health back – my mind, body and heart. I want to be strong.
I want to look and feel my best. I want to be in incredible shape.
I want to relax. And hang out with cool people. Where I can just chill out – play guitar and dance the night away.
I want to chase my dreams and follow my passions.
I want to spend every waking moment living to the fullest.
And I want to make movies, take pictures and tell stories along the way that will inspire others who want to do the same.
